FAQ

I haven't finished a novel yet. Is this right for me?

Absolutely. In fact, many writers find the serial format easier to start than a novel because it focuses on smaller, episodic milestones rather than a daunting 80,000-word mountain. If you have a story that won't let go of you, you are ready to start building.

Does this work for my genre?

The serial engine is genre-agnostic. While we often think of Sci-Fi, Fantasy, or Romance as the "classic" serial genres, the format works beautifully for Thrillers, Historical Fiction, and even Literary Fiction. If your story relies on characters and ongoing conflict, it can be serialized.

I have a day job. Do I have time for this?

This is the beauty of the "Unstoppable" method. Unlike the novel-churn model, which requires massive bursts of energy to launch a book every few months, serialization relies on steady, manageable production. I teach systems that are easily implemented by the part-time author who wants to build a full-time career.

Do I need to be "tech-savvy" to join the Academy?

You need to be willing to learn, but you do not need to be a coder. Whether you choose Substack, Patreon, Ream, or your own site, I focus on the content strategy, not the code or specific platform. If you can send an email, you can run a serial.

Can I still publish my serial as a book later?

Yes. This is a core part of the model, in fact! A serial is the river; books are the reservoirs (corny, I know, but you get what I mean!). I teach you how to structure your seasons so they can easily be packaged into books (ebooks, print, or audio) down the road, giving you two revenue streams from one story.

What if I just want the info and not the hand-holding?

That is exactly why the Apprenticeship tier exists on Patreon. It is a self-directed library card. You get access to the archives—my beat sheets, trackers, and templates—to use at your own pace, with no pressure to show up for live calls. I add to it regularly, so there is always something new for you to learn and try out!
